Sunrise At Gulfport, MS by LadyAliceofOz Sunrise At Gulfport, MS by LadyAliceofOz
:aww: :floating: after working like crazed idiots for what seems like forever :faint: we are finally enjoying a well deserved day at the beach :relax:

 :boogie:

We got up really early, so that we would be on the water, when the sun came up  and I think our efforts were well worth it! Here's another picture, made just a bit earlier than this one [link]

For more captures of our morning's adventure, be sure to visit our combined roadie account *Our-Road-Kill-Cafe and my sweet hubby's main account =TThealer

Hope you like them!

Nice shot, Alice! I love the Gulf Coast. A few years ago when Connie and I went to see my folks in Tennessee, we took the long way home so I could take her down there. We followed the coast from Tallahassee, FL to New Orleans and she loved it so much. :)

In April of 1969, I saw the beach for the first time :wow: and with my folks, we drove all the way down to Key West and back... and on the way home, we drove along Highway 90, enjoying the antebellum homes on the north side of the beach, while driving under the live oak arch that covered the highway, most of the way from Biloxi to Gulfport :excited: then in August of that same year, Hurricane Camille came ashore at Biloxi... destroyed complete sections of Highway 90, a number of the homes, and a larger number of the live oaks :cries: I'm just thrilled that I got to see the area at the height of it's sleepy antebellum period!

In 1979, when I brought Bob down here for the first time, there were still a few steps that went to nowhere on empty lots :O but, by the time our daughter, Lindsay, was old enough to see it for the first time, it was pretty much all built back up by then. Lindsay's new hubby, Phillip, was born in Biloxi... so in 2004, she & Phillip drove this way, going home to North Carolina (as well as spending several days in New Orleans)... they ate at Sonic (directly on the beach!) in Biloxi, and were entertained by a seagull that filched french fries from snoozing tourists  All that was left of the Sonic, was one of the red cone like structures at the front, when we drove Highway 90 in the fall of 2006. At least now, most of the debris has been cleared... but,
with that being said, everything looks totally different (at least the portion we've seen so far  we'll drive east towards Biloxi in the morning)... we couldn't quite decide where we were last evening, because all of our familiar landmarks are gone :faint:

Because of all the recent hurricanes, I don't even know that I want to go back any time soon. I'm afraid that it will be too sad...

 this time it's actually sooo different... and there is sooo much building going on... that it really isn't sad... in 1979, it was sad to see the steps that went nowhere... and in 2006 (right after Katrina) it was a bit freaky :O but, now the "spirit" seems one of renewal and it's interesting, rather than sad... but, you might want to consider visiting Panama City Beach, FL, or Myrtle Beach, SC... and I hope I don't jinx either of those wonderful beaches by recommending them  they've both had their share of hurricanes and rebuilt

The damage and recovery in '79 was still going on into the '80s. I remember a family trip in '83 or '84 and there were still things like the steps to nowhere. By the time I went down on my own a few years later you hardly saw any of that, unless you were really, really looking for it.

On a side note, last time I was in Biloxi with Connie, I accidentally turned left at a "No Left Turn" light and drove over the grass median. Glad there were no cops around!
